What is HDMI 1.4?

Posted on: August 11, 2010 In: Blog

If you want to get the best possible picture and audio quality from your Blu-ray disc or HD DVD player, or personal computer, you need a High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI), digital audio/video connector.

A single HDMI cable can send full uncompressed 1080p video,  up to eight channels of uncompressed HD audio, and a CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) connection, for up to 75 feet. CEC is the element that enables remote control functions in your audio/video components.

HDMI 1.4 is the latest version of HDMI. This version has added the ability to do Ethernet and send an audio signal back through the same cable.  Version 1.4 has a max resolution of 3840 x 2160p, and supports 3D formats for broadcast, game and movie content. HDMI is presently the only way to view 1080p video.

As a consumer, this means that one, universal cable gives you the highest resolution picture possible, plus crisp, clear audio from up to eight channels and the ability to control it all with one remote. Bringing you the best quality in movies, sports, general programming, or gaming, in two dimensions or three!
