Home Entertainment Control Apps

Posted on: June 29, 2011 In: Blog

Want to control your home theatre or music system using your iPhone™? Well, you’re in luck because there’s an app for that! Actually, there are a few of them.

If you own an iPhone then you know that there’s an app for pretty much everything. Home entertainment is no exception, with all of the major manufacturers on board with their own free apps.

Regardless of manufacturer, the product(s) you intend to use the apps with must be Wi-Fi enabled and meet certain technological specifications. Apps are designed to work with specific models. Most apps work with the iPhone, iPod™ touch or iPad™.

Here are some examples of big manufacturers and the apps they’ve created:

Panasonic- The Panasonic app lets you connect and control all of your compatible, Wi-Fi enabled Panasonic devices, like your TV. The Panasonic control app functions like a remote control. There is a second Panasonic app, designed to control their Blu-ray Disc™ players.

Samsung- The Samsung app also functions like a remote control, but doubles as a keyboard and game controller for internet@TV games as well. There is a second Samsung app which controls their Blu-ray Disc™ players.

Denon- The Denon app lets you control network ‘11/’12 series audio/video receivers and network music systems.

Yamaha- This app gives you basic control over compatible Yamaha network audio/video receivers.

Sonos- The Sonos app is fully-functioning, letting you do everything you can do with a regular Sonos controller.

Bose®- Bose has an AM/FM app, which lets you stream content from local radio stations to your SoundDock®.

AirPlay®- This is a new technology, available on the new B&W Zeppelin Air, as well as some Denon models. AirPlay lets you stream the music from your iTunes library (on your computer or hand-held devices), simultaneously, to compatible B&W or Denon systems within your home. The AirPlay remote app lets you play, pause, skip, repeat, shuffle, and control volume for each compatible system.

If all the talk of “apps this” and “apps that” seems a bit overwhelming, don’t worry. We stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and are here to help you get the most out of your new home entertainment purchases.

And as far as we know, there’s no app to replace a real-life friendly, knowledgeable sales associate who offers face-to-face information and assistance.
